Summer Gala Jazz Event Featuring Kimmie Horne

On Sunday, Aug. 23rd, 2015 from 4:00PM -7:30PM, The Ann Arbor Chapter of the Links will host a spectacular event to raise monies for the “Washtenaw County Imagination Library.” Legendary Lady of Jazz awardee singer, “Kimmie Horne” will dazzle crowds ( for a memorable evening of jazzy summer elegance. The alto chanteuse has hit songs on her new release such as, “Lullaby of Birdland,” and “And so nice to come home to.” Chanel DeGuzman of Links calls Kimmie Horne, “soul stirring.”
DeGuzman expects “a spectacular summer event where people come out for the greater good, for a worthwhile cause and a good time and to raise funds, for more books, to more kids.”
Sponsorship, donations and tickets sales proceeds will be applied towards a program that offers six books monthly, free to kids between the ages of 0 to 5, in Washtenaw County zip codes 48197 & 48198. Washtenaw County Imagination Library aims to develop necessary language and literacy skills in children before they start kindergarten. Over 1,000 children are reported to be served by the Washtenaw County Imagination Library currently.
Proceeds will also benefit other community service programs including those impacting youth, cancer, the arts, health and human services. The Links organization contributes to Breast Cancer Awareness and the Academic Achievement Gap.
“An elegant summer evening” is the Links organizations biannual fundraiser in support of their community service initiatives. The premier summer gala serves as a networking opportunity attracting more than 300 professionals of color, local businesses and civic leaders from southeast Michigan.
“The Links, Incorporated celebrates more than 68 years as a women’s volunteer service organization committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the cultural and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.”
